Diving into Chilling Reign

Posted by Fable Hobby on

Hello fellow Trainers! Today we are here to discover you the new Pokémon TCG set coming out soon to our shelves: Chilling Reign! Are you as excited as us to get your hands on new and icy cards? We sure are! Let’s dive into what this set is bringing to our collection!

Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield—Chilling Reign is the name given to the sixth main expansion of cards from the Sword & Shield Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game (the Sword & Shield Era in Japan). The set features characters and Pokémon introduced in the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, focusing on Calyrex in its merged forms with Glastrier and Spectrier.

Both Spectrier and Glastrier are equine Pokémon known to be very proud and arrogant, preferring to serve individuals they deem the strongest. They once ruled over the Crown Tundra as lords of all Pokémon, known for terrorizing the place for a time due to humans invading its territory; this lasted until defeated and tamed by Calyrex, a bipedal Pokémon known to have ruled Galar in ancient times as a merciful King, the “King of Bountiful Harvest” they say.

How does Calyrex become Ice Rider Calyrex or Shadow Rider Calyrex? Well, thanks to a key item called “Reins of Unity”, Calyrex can be combined with Spectrier or Glastrier to merge both and become a constituent Pokémon!

Now you can seize the advantage with Pokémon of the frozen lands with dozens of Pokémon originally discovered in the Galar region,  including the powerful Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX and Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX—plus the Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres—in Sword & Shield—Chilling Reign!

Let’s talk a bit about those Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres! Once every several decades, migratory Legendary Pokémon Galarian Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos, appear in the Crown Tundra. For a long time, they were thought to be the same Legendary Pokémon previously discovered in other regions: Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos. But they were not.

Galarian Articuno keeps itself airborne with its psychic power, almost never having to use its wings for this purpose. Instead, the blades on its wings can be used to slice through iron as easily as paper. Its eyes can fire beams of psychic energy that leave its opponents stuck in place, as if frozen solid. This is his signature move, Freezing Glare, being the only Pokémon that can learn it!

Galarian Moltres exudes energy churning within its body as an aura akin to a column of raging fire, leaving ordinary Pokémon unable to even approach it: opponents hit by such attacks are overcome with Deep fatigue, as if all their energy has been, well, burned away. So hot for the Tundra! Its signature move is Fiery Wrath, a Dark-type special move in which Galarian Moltres transforms its wrath into a fire-like aura to attack.

Galarian Zapdos is a belligerent, battle-hungry Pokémon who seems unable to resist challenging Pokémon it senses may be stronger than itself. He overwhelms opponents with speedy movements and ferocious kicks using its naturally mighty legs through its signatura move: Thunderous Kick. Curious thing to know about Galarian Zapdos is that its wings seem to have atrophied and it appears to be a poor flier.

Phantom hauntings, howling blizzards, and wild battles—expand the realms of your Pokémon strategy with new powers and new possibilities. Press on despite ghostly opposition, and claim total victory in the land of spectral snow!
